Liverpool v Fulham Both Teams To Score Betting Tip
Liverpool v Fulham Match Preview
After struggling in a 2-0 midweek defeat to Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool welcome last-place Fulham to Anfield in Sunday afternoon’s early match. The Reds will look to keep pace with the league leaders, while the visitors will be searching for just their second win of the season.
Our Liverpool v Fulham betting tip is Both Teams to Score – No. Read below to find out why our Premier League specialist sees another clean sheet in the cards for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
Liverpool remain one of three unbeaten teams in the Premier League, having won and drawn thrice in their last six league matches.
Facing stern opponents in Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal over the past six weeks, Jurgen Klopp’s side were able to produce draws against the top teams. When facing the likes of Southampton, Huddersfield and Cardiff City, all residing 16th-place or worse in the standings, they produced wins.
They did see their first major stumble to the season on Tuesday, however. The Reds travelled to Serbia where they put in a flat 90 minute performance that saw them fall 2-0 to Champions League minnows Red Star.
Liverpool have conceded just one goal at home this season in five matches, winning four games and playing to a 0-0 draw with City. Three of those five have gone over 2.5 goals, while both teams have scored in just one of the affairs.
The less said about Fulham’s form at this point in the season, the better. The Cottages have posted an abysmal 1W 2D 8L record in their opening 11 games, putting the pressure on Slaviša Jokanović to turn things around early.
They have now gone three matches without scoring a goal, two in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup, including falling to Huddersfield 1-0 in a very winnable match last Monday night.
In their three matches against top six opponents this season, they have been outscored by a combined 11-1 by Tottenham, Man City and Arsenal.
Playing away from Craven Cottage won’t help their chances, with the Lily Whites losing five and drawing one of their six away fixtures this year. During those encounters they have been blanked three times while allowing at least three goals on four occasions.
Liverpool v Fulham Head-to-Head
The teams have not met since the 2013-14 season when Fulham were last in the top flight. Liverpool won both of their encounters that year, including a 4-0 thrashing at Anfield. Liverpool have won the last four matches overall, although Fulham did upset them 1-0 on their home turf in May of 2012.
Liverpool Tactics and Formation
Klopp will hope to use this match as a spark to get his team’s confidence back after it was shattered in the midweek loss. When asked about where it went wrong for Liverpool on Tuesday, James Milner simply replied “From the opening whistle”.
The manager should send out his usual 4-3-3 formation headed by the trio of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. The three have been in fine league form and should be able to create a flurry of chances on Sunday.
With Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita both fully fit, the duo should feature alongside Milner in the midfield to resurrect what was a powerful unit in the opening month of the season.
The defence sees Dejan Lovren return into the mix alongside Virgil van Dijk, who have made it nearly impossible for visitors to get close to Alisson’s goal at Anfield this season.
Against an overmatched Fulham side, look for Klopp to allow Andrew Robertson and Joe Gomez to fly forward along the wings, creating space for his strikers in the middle of the pitch.
Possible Liverpool Lineup: Alisson, Robertson, van Dijk, Lovren, Gomez, Milner, Henderson, Keita, Firmino, Salah, Mane
Fulham Tactics and Formation
Slaviša Jokanović’s squad put in another sputtering performance on Monday night against a team that they actually had a sizable chance to defeat.
Without too many options or depth in his squad, the boss will likely produce a similar 4-3-3 lineup to the one he sent out last week. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andre Schurrle are the key components up front, each with the class to potentially trouble Liverpool’s staunch defence.
The problem lies in Fulham’s midfield, which are unable to maintain possession or produce scoring chances going forward. Tom Cairney has been serviceable in the centre, however with a revolving set of Jean Michael Seri, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Kevin McDonald beside him, they don’t have the quality at this point in time to challenger top-flight clubs.
The defence will certainly have their work cut out for them on Sunday. The boss is likely to pull back the midfield to help cope with the pressure, as Fulham have allowed a league-worst 29 goals this season.
Possible Fulham Lineup: Bettinelli, Fosu-Mensah, Odoi, Mawson, Sessegnon, Anguissa, Cairney, Seri, Vietto, Mitrovic, Schurrle
Liverpool Team News
Klopp has no fresh injury concerns, but will have a host of players returning from injury to choose from for his lineup.
Henderson is back from a hamstring injury that saw him miss the past two matches, while Keity has returned from the same ailment.
Lovren, Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne are all fit to play as well after missing out recently due to injury. Xherdan Shaqiri is a fresh pair of legs after not making the trip to Serbia due to political reasons and could feature from the bench on Sunday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the only player missing as he continues to work on the knee injury he suffered last season.
Fulham Team News
Kevin McDonald and Joe Bryan are unlikely to play on Sunday, with both players suffering from hamstring injuries.
Otherwise, Jokanović has a full squad for selection.
Liverpool v Fulham Prediction
Liverpool have been virtually impenetrable in the back this season, especially when playing in front of their home supporters. Fulham’s offence has continued to disappoint, as they manager just a single shot on target last week against Huddersfield, who currently sit in the relegation zone.
With the motivation of making up for the Red Star loss fresh in their minds, look for Liverpool to get back to their usual standard with a 3-0 win.
